RESULTS Worlds in Astana: Dake, Snyder win fifth titles; Zare, Javan, Bassett take gold

Two American veterans passed a milestone in Astana, and the closing day still holds a first for Mexico. Kyle Snyder and Kyle Dake each reached five senior world titles, both by the narrowest of margins.

Snyder trailed Japan's Arash Yoshida 4-0 in the 97 kg final and won on criteria after a 4-4 finish, with both of his takedowns coming in the last minute. Yoshida, 22, had pinned Akhmed Tazhudinov and beaten Hassan Yazdani on the way to the final. Snyder's quarterfinal against Abdulrashid Sadulaev also ended 4-4 on criteria.

Dake beat Azerbaijan's Arsenii Dzhioev 3-2 at 86 kg. At 35 years and eight months he is the oldest U.S. world champion, passing Bruce Baumgartner's mark from 1995, according to USA Wrestling. He avenged an 11-4 loss to Russia's Ibragim Kadiev in February by beating him 6-3 in the semifinal. Dake and Snyder still trail six-time champions Jordan Burroughs and Adeline Gray in the U.S. gold-medal count.

At 61 kg, Javan reversed last year's result against Uguev, who had beaten him 11-2 in the 2025 final. Zare was even more dominant at 125 kg, with a technical-superiority win over Kurbanov after four shutout wins. Bassett, a Virginia Tech freshman, went unbeaten in five matches. He came back from 12-3 down against Russia's Abasgadzhi Magomedov in the quarterfinal to win 14-13.

The U.S. women's team title, its first since 1999, was clinched when Everest Leydecker won the 55 kg final over Ukraine's Nataliia Klivchutska.

What to watch next: Bravo-Young beat defending champion Chongsong Han 4-1 to reach Mexico's first senior world final. He faces Lee, who won his semifinal by fall and holds a 2-0 senior record against him, according to USA Wrestling. Medal matches begin from 6 p.m. local time and also cover 74, 79 and 92 kg.
