What we know

Soldić posted on Instagram Stories that he has a date for his second UFC fight, without naming an opponent, event or date.
The UFC has not confirmed the pairing, and neither fighter has named the other.

Reported, not confirmed

Roberto Soldić wants to stay busy, and his next fight looks close to settled. Less than a month after his UFC debut, he posted on Instagram Stories: "We have a date. Time to go to work." He named no opponent, event or date.

The opponent talk has since sharpened. Fight Site Croatia reports that Daniel Rodriguez was linked to Soldić almost immediately, then fed the speculation with his own Instagram post. According to Bloody Elbow, Rodriguez later shared a promotional poster on his story showing both men and details of a fight at UFC 336 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on January 30. Neither fighter has written the other's name.

UFC 336 is still thin on official bookings. Only its top two fights are confirmed: Joshua Van against Manel Kape for the flyweight title, and Carlos Prates against Michael Morales for the interim welterweight title. A Soldić-Rodriguez bout would be an unannounced addition to that card.

The matchup would test Soldić in a new way. He beat Khaos Williams by unanimous decision at UFC 332 after a rough first round that included a knockdown, then took over. Rodriguez is a 39-year-old welterweight with a 20-6 record, according to Fight Site Croatia, and his last fight went badly: Uroš Medić knocked him out after 30 seconds at the UFC's debut card in Belgrade.

Soldić, 31, spent four years at ONE Championship with few fights, and he has said he is ready to face whoever the matchmakers choose. Sports Illustrated's MMA Knockout noted he is unlikely to fight on a November card.

The next step is an official UFC announcement of the opponent, event and date.
