ONE Championship is bringing back its numbered series in December, and the first thing it has attached to ONE 174 is a title defense: Jonathan Di Bella will put the ONE strawweight kickboxing world title on the line. The opponent and the host location are still to be named.
The card is planned for a region other than Thailand, Japan, Qatar or the United States. That leaves the field open, and it would be ONE's first numbered event outside those countries since ONE 168 in Denver in September 2024. The promotion has already announced ONE: Qatar for March 26, 2027 at the Aspire Dome in Doha. Before the pandemic, ONE ran regular events in China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, which Gong Kakutogi points to as possible venues.
Di Bella, 30 and a representative of the United Kingdom in our records, is 16-1 according to Gong Kakutogi. He won the title at ONE 162 in October 2022 and was stripped of it in April 2024 after falling ill on weigh-in day before a defense. He lost the rematch bout for the vacant belt to Prajanchai in June 2024, then rebuilt through an interim title and a unification win over Prajanchai. In July he beat Zhang Peimian by unanimous decision in a rematch.
The most visible challenger is Wang Junguang, who beat Prajanchai PK Saenchai, the strawweight Muay Thai champion, by split decision in October in his first ONE appearance in six years. Asked about a fight with Wang, Di Bella told local media: "I think somebody would be knocked out, but it won't be me" (translated).
Rui Botelho, whom Di Bella beat in July, is another name raised, but he is already booked for ONE SAMURAI 5 on Nov. 18, which makes a December title shot unlikely. Di Bella had been due to move up to challenge flyweight kickboxing champion Superlek at ONE SAMURAI 4 in October, but that fight fell through when Superlek tore his ACL.
Watch for the announcement of the opponent and venue, which ONE has not yet given.
