A tournament run could come early in a 20-year-old's career. Ramadan "The Scorpion" Ondash of Lebanon meets Japan's Shimon Yoshinari in the quarterfinals of the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix, a bracket that leads toward World Championship contention.
The bout is on The Inner Circle 38 card on Nov. 13 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok. ONE Championship says it airs live on live.onefc.com in Asia primetime. Our records show both fighters have the fight booked and no other bouts are scheduled for either.
Ondash comes from a fighting family in Beirut. He is the youngest of eight children, his father was a wrestler, and several older brothers fought Muay Thai professionally. He was an IFMA youth champion and won multiple Arab junior titles, so he has competed internationally since childhood.
Outside the ring he is a keen traveler. By his own account he has been to Thailand 17 times, along with Germany, Jordan, Turkey, Spain, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. After the fight he plans a trip to Georgia, where he wants to see the mountains. "I like going with my friends just to see the world," he said.
Those plans depend on the result. A win moves him into the Grand Prix semifinals; a loss ends his run in the bracket. Yoshinari, the Japanese standout, stands in his way, and the matchup is the next thing to watch on Nov. 13.
