Jermell Charlo's return has a date, an opponent and a new weight class. The former undisputed super welterweight champion meets Australia's Brock Jarvis in a 10-round middleweight bout on the Gold Coast, on the undercard of Erislandy Lara against Tim Tszyu.
Charlo has not fought since losing a unanimous decision to Canelo Alvarez on Sept. 30, 2023, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. That was his move up from 154 pounds, where he had held all four major belts. His last win came in May 2022, a tenth-round stoppage of Brian Castaño in their rematch, which made him undisputed champion after a split draw the previous July. PBC lists the 36-year-old at 35 wins, two losses and one draw, with 19 knockouts.
Jarvis has been in this position before. He faced another returning former world champion, Keith Thurman, at Sydney's Hordern Pavilion on March 12, 2025, in a scheduled 10-rounder for the WBA International super welterweight title, and lost. Charlo is a further step up in pedigree.
The main event pairs the 43-year-old Cuban Lara, the WBA middleweight champion, with Tszyu, a 32-year-old Australian former world champion fighting in front of a home crowd. Tszyu has the age advantage by more than a decade. Samedov's WBA super featherweight defense against Liam Wilson rounds out the two title fights.
Watch for the ticket release on Monday, Nov. 9, when pre-sale access opens, and for how Charlo looks at middleweight after the long layoff.
