KSW 124 is filling up with fights that matter for the rankings. Two of the newest bookings put fighters in unfamiliar spots: Adam Soldaev is chasing a title shot in a new division, and Rafał Haratyk is dropping a weight class after losing his belt.
Soldaev vs. Deux could decide who challenges for the lightweight title. Soldaev, ranked third, moved up from featherweight after losing a fifth-round submission to Patryk Kaczmarczyk in his bid for the interim belt. He missed the lightweight limit by more than a kilogram before his debut there, then knocked out Mateusz Makarowski at the end of round one and took the knockout-of-the-night bonus. Deux, ranked tenth, is a grappler on a four-fight winning streak, three of those wins in KSW, including one over Welisson Paiva. The champion's vacancy is due to end in November, when Valeriu Mircea meets Marcin Held at KSW 123 in Szczecin. Both Soldaev and Deux have had trouble making weight.
Haratyk, 39, has fought only at light heavyweight in KSW. There he won the vacant title through the KSW EPIC tournament and defended it twice, before losing it to Bartosz Leśko by unanimous decision at KSW 120. He had beaten Leśko at KSW 111. His last fight at 84 kilograms was the January 2023 Ares title challenge against Abdoul Abdouraguimov. He led deep into round five before being caught in a leg lock with 25 seconds left.
Vrtačić, ranked fourth at middleweight, is on a three-fight winning streak, all stoppages, the latest in round two against Sofiane Bouafia at Brave CF 108 in his hometown of Pula. He has won four of five KSW fights, and his only loss there was a decision to Michał Michalski. After the Albert Odzimkowski win he asked KSW for a top-three opponent. He got a former champion who is still ranked first among light heavyweight contenders, and a win would be the biggest of his career.
Pawlak and Kuberski, the middleweight champion and the interim champion, meet on the same card. Whether Haratyk stays at middleweight or returns to 205 pounds will be clearer after December 19.
