BUZZ Garcia says Mayweather title fight is agreed; adviser says it must wait, De La Hoya says 50/50

Ryan Garcia says the biggest payday of his career is done. His camp says it is not that simple. Garcia announced on X that the fight is real and agreed, calling it "the 50-0 against the current champion." His adviser has since put a queue in front of it.

Guadalupe Valencia, Garcia's lawyer and adviser, told Ring Magazine's Mike Coppinger the team will work to make the fight when Mayweather is free from other obligations, hopefully soon. He said it would be a real fight, not an exhibition, with Mayweather's 50-0 on the line. Boxing News reads the statement as confirmation that the fight goes to the back of the queue.

The obligations are substantial. Mayweather has said on the PBD Podcast that an exhibition with Mike Tyson comes before a professional rematch with Manny Pacquiao, and he told Salita Promotions that Mike Zambidis is next. Boxing News says legal issues surround some of these commitments and that Garcia's own upcoming activity could also disrupt the plan.

World Boxing News reports Netflix is seriously interested in a two-fight deal. Pacquiao would come in May 2027 or slightly later, and Garcia in September 2027 or early 2028. Both would count as professional bouts. The Pacquiao rematch has already been slowed by litigation over Mayweather's existing commitments.

Garcia, 28, won the WBC belt from Mario Barrios in February and defended it with a second-round stoppage of Conor Benn in September. Mayweather is 49 and has not fought professionally since beating Conor McGregor in 2017. Garcia is also in advanced talks with Teofimo Lopez for a unification targeted for Feb. 6, which would come well ahead of any Mayweather date, though nothing is signed.

Oscar De La Hoya, Garcia's promoter, said he learned of the idea from the internet like everyone else, then called it "almost like a 50/50 fight" because of Mayweather's ring IQ. Eddie Hearn likes the fight because Mayweather would face a reigning world champion, and thinks Mayweather can win. He called it a "welterweight George Foreman coming back" and said that if it does not happen, Garcia should fight Devin Haney. Watch for whether the Lopez deal is signed and whether Mayweather's Tyson and Pacquiao plans move forward.
