Garcia says Mayweather fight is agreed; adviser says it waits, nothing signed

Ryan Garcia says the biggest payday of his career is done. His camp says it is not that simple. Garcia posted on X that the fight is real and agreed, calling it "the 50-0 against the current champion." His adviser has since put a queue in front of it.

Guadalupe Valencia, Garcia's lawyer and adviser, told Ring Magazine's Mike Coppinger the team will work to make the fight when Mayweather is free from other obligations, hopefully soon. He said it would be a real fight, not an exhibition. Boxing News reads that as confirmation the fight goes to the back of the line.

The line is long. Mayweather said on the PBD Podcast that an exhibition with Mike Tyson comes before a professional rematch with Manny Pacquiao, and he told Salita Promotions that Mike Zambidis is next. World Boxing News reports Netflix is seriously interested in a two-fight deal: Pacquiao in May 2027 or slightly later, Garcia in September 2027 or early 2028, both as professional bouts. The Pacquiao rematch has already been slowed by litigation.

Garcia, 28, won the WBC belt from Mario Barrios in February and defended it with a second-round stoppage of Conor Benn in September. Mayweather, 49, has not fought professionally since beating Conor McGregor in 2017. On a Kick live stream Garcia said he will fight on Feb. 6 and "might fight Teofimo Lopez or Floyd Mayweather." That date is well ahead of any realistic Mayweather slot. Lopez has been ordered by the WBA to face Jack Catterall first, so the unification could be delayed.

Oscar De La Hoya, Garcia's promoter, said he learned of the idea from the internet like everyone else, then called it "almost like a 50/50 fight" because of Mayweather's ring IQ. Eddie Hearn likes the fight because Mayweather would face a reigning champion, and thinks Mayweather can win. He called it a "welterweight George Foreman coming back" and said that if it does not happen, Garcia should fight Devin Haney.

Watch for whether the Lopez deal is signed and whether Mayweather's Tyson and Pacquiao plans move forward.
