Three low kicks were all it took. According to MMA.pl, Robert Maruszak beat Thomas Narmo in the main event of First Step Championship 13 on Saturday in Sopot, with a heavyweight belt at stake and the Polish fighter in front of his home crowd.
Narmo dropped to the mat after the third kick and tapped. MMA.pl says he spoke with Maruszak soon afterward and suggests he may have been pointing to an injury, but that is the outlet's guess, not a confirmed explanation.
The result is a quick one for Maruszak, who had not fought in MMA this year. His previous FSC appearance was also short: MMA.pl says he beat a debuting Finn in one minute and twenty seconds.
Narmo's name carries an odd history in Poland. He was briefly agreed as a late replacement against Mariusz Pudzianowski in March 2021, then declined, and Pudzianowski fought Nikola Milanovic instead. A KSW 60 fight with Izu Ugonoh in April 2021 collapsed after Narmo broke ribs in training.
He then signed with ONE Championship, where, according to MMA.pl, he had two fights: a no-contest and a quick stoppage loss. He later moved to professional boxing, where MMA.pl says he was stopped early in the second round by Nelson Hysa on the Itauma vs Hrgovic card.
For Narmo, Saturday adds another short defeat. Neither fighter's next booking has been announced.
