Apex Fight Night booked reality-TV personalities Johannes Leonidas and Urban Nyman for Dec. 6, but it is not official whether the bout is MMA or grappling.
What we know
- AFN announced Leonidas vs. Nyman on social media for its Dec. 6 event.
- It is not official whether the bout will be MMA or grappling.
- Leonidas is a former Swedish judo champion who has fought MMA and competed in grappling for AFN.
- Nyman trains BJJ at Allstars Training Center in Stockholm.
The booking is clear, but the format is not. Apex Fight Night has put Johannes Leonidas against Urban Nyman on its Dec. 6 card, and the promotion has not said whether the two will meet under MMA rules or in a grappling match, according to Kimura.
The ambiguity matters because both men have a foot in each world. Leonidas is a former Swedish judo champion with experience in both formats. He has fought MMA for AFN, worked as a super fighter in grappling for the promotion, and has also competed in a grappling match at Hidden Champions. On a judo and grappling résumé, he would be the more seasoned competitor under either ruleset.
Nyman arrives from a different direction. He drew attention this autumn for his appearance on the reality series Gift vid första ögonkastet, in particular for his views on gender roles. He trains BJJ at Allstars Training Center in Stockholm and has also trained MMA and Muay Thai, though no competitive record is given for him.
Leonidas is known from the reality series Ex On The Beach, so the matchup pairs two reality-TV names, and the pull is as much about their profiles as about the sport.
What to watch for next: AFN confirming the ruleset, which would show whether this is a full MMA fight or a grappling match, and any further additions to the Dec. 6 card.
