Once a fight hits the mat, position is everything. The fighter on top can hit harder and is safer; the fighter on their back is trying to sweep, stand up or submit from below. Tap a position to see who's winning it.
To get the fight down, fighters shoot for the legs (single-leg and double-leg takedowns, from wrestling), throw from the clinch (trips and throws, from judo), or catch a kick. Defending them is the sprawl: throwing the legs back and dropping the hips onto the shooter.
Chokes cut off blood to the brain; joint locks bend an arm or leg the wrong way. A fighter caught in one taps or risks going out or getting hurt. Tap to flip.
