Scoring

Boxing uses the 10-point must system, like MMA: the round's winner gets 10, the loser usually 9. Judges look at clean, hard punches that land, effective aggression, ring generalship (who controls the fight) and defense.

A knockdown usually costs a point, so a round with one is normally 10-8. The referee can also deduct a point for a foul.

The count

When a boxer goes down, the referee sends the other to a neutral corner and counts to ten. The fallen boxer must stand and show they're fit to continue. Most fights use a mandatory eight count: even a boxer who jumps straight up gets counted to eight. Some rules, like the three-knockdown rule or being "saved by the bell", depend on the commission and the fight.
