Jake Woodley is the new LFA middleweight champion after finishing Zayne Havener late in the second round of the LFA 244 main event at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Woodley, billed by the LFA as its fastest knockout artist, took longer than usual against an opponent who had also won five straight. According to MMAPLANET, both men were visibly tired by round two before Woodley landed a right uppercut, scored a knockdown and followed with punches until the referee stepped in.
Woodley, a former NCAA Division I All-American wrestler according to MMAPLANET, used the moment to campaign for a move up. "Jiu-jitsu and kickboxing are lame. I'll win in the UFC with wrestling and boxing," he said, according to MMAPLANET (translated). With the previous champion having left for the UFC, the belt has a recent track record as a stepping stone.
The co-main event matched two regional champions with perfect records. MMAPLANET described a grinding grappling fight in which Worth kept landing takedowns, but Blackorby, the Caged Aggression champion, repeatedly reversed position to take the back or top against the Ring of Combat titleholder. On the main card opener, Jurado Sánchez's quick submission of the unbeaten Reinoso may put him in the flyweight title picture, though MMAPLANET reported he had missed weight.
The LFA returns next Friday with LFA 245 at Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino.
